Course Description

In this webinar, attendees will learn the relevant essentials of the Employee Retention Credit from the perspective of a CFO or controller. In the three years since the introduction of this program, many eligible organizations have not claimed this large (often 6- or 7-figure) credit or are being promised exorbitant and inappropriate filings from non-licensed firms. This course is designed to be hands-on, practical, and full of examples so attendees will know exactly how to approach this complex credit while avoiding the many pitfalls.

This webinar will communicate a practical understanding of the program so a CFO or controller with no knowledge of the Employee Retention Credit can successfully determine eligibility and understand the IRS filing process. Attendees will also be able to determine if their organization has been underserved or improperly evaluated for eligibility by their tax professional or by a third-party provider.

Resources Provided:

  • Links to an IRS guidance document checklist for calculations as well as for IRS substantiation requirements

  • Testing guidelines for eligibility under revenue qualifications

  • Questionnaire to assist with determining eligibility under non-revenue qualification

  • All major topics will have examples of documentation and calculations

Learning Objectives:

  • Determine the basics of the program and eligibility while knowing how to spot more complex situations

  • Summarize the IRS filing process, including recent updates on IRS processing time, audits, and new guidance (Including IR-2023-169 Announced Sept. 14, 2023 and Withdrawal Program Announced Oct. 19, 2023)

  • Identify the common misunderstandings and pitfalls of the program

  • Define how to avoid scams, overclaims, and underclaims, and what to do if you think your organization has been affected by an improper filing
